Maruti Swift 2025 : For a few seconds, the morning rush-hour traffic on Delhi’s Ring Road opened up and this was my chance to test how quick this all-new 2025 Maruti Swift really is.
And they caught the sunlight just right when I zipped between lanes on the 101, drawing appreciative glances from my fellow commuters.
Having lived with this reborn icon (India’s long-standing best-selling hatchback) for five days, I can safely say Maruti Suzuki has managed to overcome potentially contradictory needs of style evolution and affordable practicality.
“Ye naya Swift hai kya? Kitna smart dikhta hai!” (Is this the new Swift? It looks so smart!) a curious onlooker at a CNG filling station in Gurugram observed.
That reflex action sums up exactly what Maruti has done with the 2025 edition – a major aesthetic overhaul that draws attention while still making sure you don’t forget this is a Swift.

Maruti Swift 2025 The Style Power-Up That Everybody Is Talking About

I’ll start with the most overt change – the outside. With the overall shape and size of the Swift being retained, Maruti’s design team has made a host of changes that together give they car a more premium, Euro-inspired look.
The front end profile has an all new grille design: much bigger with a honeycomb pattern and a floating horizontal chrome which softly joins the new more aggressive LED headlamps together.
These headlights are standard on every model except the base and feature distinctive Cshaped daytime running lights for a unique light signature.
“The brief was to make it recognisable at night immediately, without needing to see even the Suzuki badge,” said Rajiv Kumar, a Maruti dealer in South Delhi, whom I drove to on one of my jaunts in the car.
“The retail influence of the lighting elements really make you equally forget the vehicle is at an attractive price point,” he added.
In profile, the 2025 Swift maintains the floating roof look, with blacked out A and B-pillars, while there are new-look two-tone alloy wheels (15-inch on mid grades, 16-inch higher up) that now fill the arches better.
The shoulder line is much more accented, and stronger defining on the lateral lines.
This is also the view that gets the biggest update, and it occurs at the rear of the Aventador S, as horizontally oriented LED tail lamps are now connected by a black panel that gives the car a wider look.
At the back, the bumper features something that looks like a diffuser, and it manages to give the car a sporty look without overtly doing so, boy-racer style.
When I spent a day driving the car in Delhi NCR’s varied locales, from the posh locales of South Delhi to the cramped streets of Old Delhi, the new Swift turned more heads than the old model ever did – something worthy of its legacy in a country where the car has become a staple over the past 20 years.
“My son was particularly keen to own the new model just based on the way it looks,” said Ramesh Sharma, a Swift owner I met at a Maruti service center in Noida. It had been a week since he’d upgraded from his 2019 model to the 2025 model.
“The old one was still working fine, but this is much more high-end he said. I have to agree with him!”
Maruti Swift 2025 High-Quality Interior That Compromises the Price Point
Getting into the 2025 Swift, the styling changes don’t stop there with a completely overhauled interior that leaves a lot of the previous generation’s niggles in the dust but throws in some unexpected high-end touches.
Most noticeable is the new dashboard layout that puts a floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (7-inch screen in mid trims) atop the dash, to place it closer to the driver’s sightline.
Screen quality is dramatically better, with crisper graphics and smoother touch performance that rivals systems found in cars costing much, much more.
“They have absolutely rethought the inside,” said automotive analyst Vikram Gour when I called him to discuss the new model.
“It’s not just about adding features, but about elevating the feeling of the place through better materials, and design all in harmony.
All that sophistication continues inside with the new flat-bottomed steering wheel featuring metallic acent trim, updated instrument cluster with a larger 4.2-inch color multi-information display, and the upgraded seat upholstery featuring bolstering for better support.
Material quality sees a noticeable upgrade, with soft-touch materials making an appearance on the upper dashboard and door panels in upper trims – spots where many rivals still stick with hard plastics.
In the heat of the day, the AC with an auto function caved in the cabin space in no time, and even for the rear, those new AC vents ensure that the second row passengers are also in comfort – something increasingly sought after in a market where family men use the SUV to the hilt.
What really stood out, especially during the traffic snarls so typical of Delhi, was the better sealing and the improved sound insulation.
The previous Swift could seem noisier when left to idle for a while, but the 2025 Swift remains more Noteworthy than the cabin used to be, and that’s because there’s less noise there now.
Maruti Swift 2025 Performance Evolutions: Little and Often
The 2025 Swift retains the same old powerplants, a newer version of the 1.2-litre K-series, with a power output of 89 bhp against 83 bhp and the peak torque of 113 Nm.
Step on the throttle and nothing gives you whiplash here, but you do notice more urgency in city driving.
On my test drives through Delhi’s traffic, characterized by plenty of start-stop action, the updated engine map delivered stronger low-end performance, making the Swift feel peppier off the line, and meaning there’s less need to drop a gear when negotiating crowded streets.
The gearshift action, thanks to slightly shorter throws and positively accurate feel is a little sharper now, and while I barely had a couple of quick shifts in the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) equipped Ignis at the dealership – there is still that typical pause between one gear and the next that the AMT suffers, that you won’t find replacing the cog in a manual Ignis.
And most amazing is what Maruti has done to performance while also making it more efficient. Despite the bump in power, the 2025 Swift delivers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 23.2 km/l for the manual model (and 22.6 km/l for the AMT).
The onboard computer averaged 19.8 km/l during my mixed-condition rides—all that is quite impressive for real-world urban and highway usage.
The CNG version, becoming all the more popular against the rising fuel costs, returns a claimed 33.1 km/kg – making it one of the most affordable cars to run in India.
“CNG demand has exploded,” Kumar said, at the Maruti dealership. “The waiting period for the CNG version is at an elevated 8-10 weeks, due to high demand while the one for petrol is at 2-3 weeks.”
Maruti Swift 2025 Driving Dynamics: The Swift DNA Is Intact
The Swift always stood out amongst competitors for its fun-to-drive nature – It was far from being just another appliance.
I’m pleased to say the 2025 version keeps the same DNA, while improving on the experience overall.
The steering continues to be well weighted and responsive with plenty of feedback during the more spirited portions of my test route around Gurugram.
Body roll is kept in check when cranking around corners, and the slightly wider stance (an extra 10mm in the track) helps when travelling at freeway speeds.
Ride quality, incidentally, is markedly better than the last generation, with sharper impacts, which make up much of Delhi’s road infrastructure, being smothered much more effectively.
On a particularly nasty section in close proximity to the construction zones in Noida, its suspension editing software worked efficiently to filter out the very worst, maintaining feel and purchase without allowing the bike to be deflected off the line.
The brakes feel strong with a good amount of pedal bite, and they are easy to modulate for smooth stops – a boon in unpredictable city traffic where emergency halts are occasionally necessary.
Maruti Swift 2025 Pricing That Stays Within Reach
As far as prices are concerned, there hasn’t been a significant spike even though styling, interior quality and features have all taken a big leap forward.
The 2025 Swift is priced from ₹6.49 lakh for the entry-level LXi model rising to ₹9.35 lakh for the range-topping ZXi+ AMT (all prices, ex-showroom).
This pricing puts the Swift right in the mix to take on main competitors such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, and you get much more up-market feel and the assurance of Maruti’s wide service network.
“The way the company has priced it (Xpioneer) is quite smart,” noted Gour in a conversation.
“They’ve now loaded so much into it that it justifies the increase of cost from the model it replaces while also making that price point remain tolerable for their bread-and-butter customer. That’s a pretty fine line to walk.”
This accessibility extends to financing as well. Based on what I gathered during my dealership outing, EMI will commence at around ₹9,500 for a 7-year loan with regular down payments and will, therefore, be accessible to middle-class families wanting to buy a new car or even replacing their older cars.
Maruti Swift 2025 Features: The Right Kind of Extras
Other than mere marketing gimmicks, Maruti has been keen on imbedding technology that enhances the everyday ownership:
The wireless smartphone connectivity (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto), meanwhile, greatly reduced cable clutter while I was testing it.
When parking became a nightmare on the notoriously narrow streets of Delhi, the 360-degree camera system (higher models only) was a lifesaver.
Automatic headlamps and auto-wipers eased the driver’s grind during a surprise evening cloudburst.
The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is available for all variants, which forms a crucial safety tool for novice drivers in particular.
Safety equipment is also up while the six airbags are now standard across the range – an area of criticism in the previous Swift safety package.
ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounting points are also part of the base package without an option.
Discussing with a customer at the dealership, Kumar said customers are now paying more attention to safety features: “Five years back, a customer would rarely ask about safety features beyond airbags.
Nowadays, many want to know about NCAP ratings and other safety features. Clearly, the market is changing and Maruti is changing with it.”
Maruti Swift 2025 The Judgment: A Stylish Evolution With No Compromise
I took the 2025 Swift in to work after five days, I actually found it quite difficult to hand it back.
What Maruti has done is remarkable – there’s a big change in the Swift’s design and perceived quality without the loss of fundamental characteristics that have made it India’s best-selling hatch for so long.
The styling touches lend it some real showroom appeal outside its price class and the improved interior feels more premium to live with.
Those evolutionary but not revolutionary enhancements also lend a significant boost to the daily-driving experience.
Most importantly, perhaps, these improvements aren’t accompanied by a huge price uptick that would price the Swift out of its historical customer group.
The generations with the right amount of aspiration and accessibility has kept the success story of the Swift continued.
As I returned the keys, a last conversation with a potential buyer at the dealership stayed with me.
“Swift hamesha se smart choice rahi hai,” (Swift has always been a smart choice) he said, eyeing the Phoenix Red display model. “Ab to smart dikhti bhi hai.” (Now it looks smart too.)
This fundamental statement is also probably the best expression of what Maruti has achieved with the 2025 Swift – improving the fun of driving what was already a sensible purchase.
In the hypercompetitive Indian hatchback market, that is going to be a tough proposition to beat.
